VYSA President Steps Down

Afterward more than 20 years, Denise Edwards is retiring as President of the Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA). Denise has been an ardent supporter of the Metro DC-Virginia State Referee Programme and youth soccer in Virginia, the U.Due south., and internationally. She was involved in all levels of operation of VYSA and helped many young players and referees attain success at the youth, college and professional person levels. Denise navigated the organizational politics inherent in any organization for the betterment of all of Virginia soccer. Our Referee Program tin can attribute many of our successes to Denise's dedication and support. We volition miss her. Nosotros welcome her replacement, Bill Phillips, and look frontwards to standing our relationship with VYSA.

Registration and teaching for new referees resumed on July 5, 2021, and will go along through Apr 2022.

New US Soccer Guidance on DOGSO

US Soccer published a new position paper on, "Denying a goal or obvious goal scoring opportunity (DOGSO)."

This paper clarifies that a send-off (Reddish Card) is warranted when a goalkeeper commits a foul outside of the penalisation surface area and the goal is unprotected. In recent high-profile games, referees have been penalizing with a caution (Yellow Bill of fare) for Stopping a Promising Assault (SPA).

SafeSport Update

Annual Training Required

SafeSport training for adult referees does non run meantime with your referee license - information technology expires 1 twelvemonth from the date you most recently completed SafeSport training.
